Liz Wright
is a software developer who would like to put away the keyboard forever and retire to her studio.
“I love to create. Writing software is part of that. I also sew clothes and knit jumpers for family. As a child I loved to build things with lego, and sew clothes for my dolls. Art and craft was always my favourite subject at school. Now I find that painting is something I feel the need to do more and more.”
Starting her painting journey in high school, and in particular, watercolour, she dreamed of becoming a professional artist. After school, life got in the way and she didn’t pick up a paintbrush for more than 30 years, until she decided that it was finally time to get back into it. With much support from her family she took the plunge and enrolled in a watercolour class where she began exploring the different styles of watercolour. She describes her style as “Loose and expressionist with a passion for capturing the Australian Landscape”, and draws inspiration from early Australian impressionists.
Liz is an avid traveller that captures scenes from her life experiences that often become the inspiration for her art.
She is a member of the Watercolour Society of WA along with the Western Australian Society of the Arts.
She has sold work on commission, as well as through galleries, where her work is increasingly exhibited in her home state of Western Australia, across Australia and internationally.
“I still get a thrill out of seeing my work hanging on a wall. It encourages me and gives me the justification I need to dedicate more time to painting, which I love”.
